Imran khan avoids arrest; IHC suspends non-bail able warrants

The non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case have been stayed by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) till March 18.

According to reports, Imran Khan’s arrest warrants were suspended by IHC Chief Judge Aamer Farooq, and police were prevented from apprehending him until March 18. This gave Imran Khan a time to appear before the trial court hearing the Toshakhana matter.

Imran Khan should appear in court tomorrow, according to the IHC, which also issued a warning that if he does not, contempt of court actions will be conducted.

It is pertinent to note that Imran Khan has been eluding capture in the Toshakhana case and has been residing at his Zaman Park home, which is surrounded by PTI members who have confronted the police in an effort to stop them from apprehending their leader.

Tuesday saw the Islamabad police show up at Imran Khan’s residence to carry out non-bailable arrest warrants issued by an Islamabad sessions court for him in the Toshakhana reference—in which he has missed multiple hearings—backed up by his Punjab Police colleagues and the Rangers.

They encountered strong opposition from PTI workers and followers, and Zaman Park quickly descended into chaos, raising alarms across the nation.

Following the confrontations in Zaman Park, Imran Khan’s legal team petitioned the Islamabad High Court to quash his arrest warrants so that the PTI leader may show up in court on March 18.

The District and Sessions Court Islamabad on Thursday dismissed Imran Khan’s appeal and affirmed his non-bailable arrest warrants in the Toshakhana case during yesterday’s sessions.
