TikTok and PTA Launch Digital Safety Competition to Promote Online Awareness

TikTok has partnered with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to unveil an exciting Digital Safety Competition aimed at enhancing awareness about online safety among youth. This initiative invites creators to develop engaging short videos that address six critical categories of digital safety.

Categories for Participation

The competition encourages content creators to focus on the following six categories:

  1. Responsible Use of Social Media: Promoting thoughtful engagement and awareness of online interactions.
  2. Combating Online Harassment: Sharing strategies and stories to help reduce and prevent harassment in digital spaces.
  3. Preventing Online Fraud: Educating users about common scams and how to protect personal information.
  4. Ensuring Youth Safety and Well-being: Fostering a supportive online environment for younger audiences.
  5. Understanding TikTok’s Safety Tools: Guiding users on how to utilize the platform’s built-in safety features effectively.
  6. Addressing Misinformation: Encouraging verification of information before sharing to combat false narratives.

By participating, creators can contribute significantly to promoting responsible online behavior and fostering a safer digital community.

Strengthening Digital Literacy in Pakistan

This collaboration between TikTok and the PTA signifies a mutual commitment to improving digital literacy and safety standards in Pakistan. The competition is part of a broader effort to encourage users to verify information before dissemination, thereby enhancing the overall quality of online interactions.

Earlier this week, TikTok also hosted its inaugural creators’ event, the TikTok Experience, in Islamabad. This event gathered content creators and publishers from across the country for a day filled with panel discussions, interactive workshops, and activities designed to empower the local TikTok community.

Enhanced Content Moderation Efforts

In 2024, TikTok has taken significant steps to maintain a safe online environment, removing over 30.7 million videos from its platform in Pakistan alone. According to the second-quarter Community Enforcement Report, an impressive 99.5% of these videos were deleted before users could even report them, with 97% being removed within 24 hours of their upload.

On a global scale, TikTok removed more than 178 million videos during the same period, with 144 million being taken down through automated systems, highlighting its ongoing commitment to content moderation and user safety.

Through this initiative and continuous efforts in content regulation, TikTok and the PTA are dedicated to fostering a secure digital landscape for all users in Pakistan.
