Time line of floods in Balochistan.

The following is a list of major floods that have occurred in Balochistan province in Pakistan:

January 1960 – The worst flood in Pakistani history occurred when the Brahmaputra River overflowed its banks and swept away villages, crops and homes. The Brahmaputra River forms the border between Bangladesh and Indian Kashmir, and is one of the main tributaries of the Ganges River.

December 1984 – More than one million people were affected by floods that hit eastern Balochistan province. Seventy million sacks of agricultural produce were ruined, costing the country an estimated $100 million. This was one of the worst floods to affect Pakistan since 1950.

July 1997 – A record amount of rain fell over much of Balochistan within a two-week period, leading to severe flooding that affected more than 900,000 people and claimed at least 167 lives. Most of this rainfall was due to a typhoon that passed over south-east Asia in late June 1997.

The 2010 Pakistan floods began in late July 2010 following heavy monsoon rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan regions of Pakistan. Approximately one-fifth of Pakistan’s total land area was affected by floods, which destroyed crops, homes, infrastructure, and displaced up to 20 million people. The Balochistan province was particularly hard-hit by the floods, with an estimated three-quarters of the province under water at the peak of the disaster. The region’s infrastructure was severely damaged, with over 1,500 bridges destroyed and roads rendered impassable.

The floods also caused widespread damage to crops, resulting in food shortages and inflation. The Pakistani government was criticized for its slow and inadequate response to the disaster, particularly in Balochistan. International assistance was slow to arrive and was hampered by logistical difficulties. The floods had a significant negative impact on Pakistan’s economy, with the country’s GDP growth rate declining from 4.7% in 2010 to 1.8% in 2011.

Floods, which occurred between July and September 2013, killed more than 1,500 people and displaced more than 3 million people.

In 2017, the province was hit by two major floods – the first in April, and the second in June. These floods claim around 1,000 lives and injure tens of thousands more.

Baluchistan, one of the poorest and most sparsely populated provinces of Pakistan, is currently facing a crisis caused by devastating floods. The floods have left at least 426 people dead and Thousands more homeless. The rains that affected Baluchistan began on August 8 and continued until September 2. More than 1 million people were affected by the floods in some areas and around 900 villages were completely inundated.

Residents of several villages in the district of Kech Balochistan have been displaced after incessant rainfall caused flash floods that sweep away homes, livestock, and crops. Several additional villages are also at risk of flooding. At least two people have been killed, and more than 20 others injured as a result of the floods. Authorities have deployed rescuers and emergency response teams to affected areas in an effort to rescue those affected and restore basic services. However, given the extent and magnitude of the damage, it is likely that many people will remain homeless for some time.

Many are still waiting to be rescued. Some are waiting for food provisions and many are stuck due to destruction of roads infrastructure in the Province.
