Peshawar – Sher Afzal Marwat, a member of the National Assembly from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has sharply criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government for neglecting the party’s imprisoned founder, Imran Khan. Addressing a rally of PTI activists in Peshawar, Marwat expressed his disappointment over party leaders prioritizing personal ambitions and internal conflicts over loyalty to Khan, who has been incarcerated in Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail for over a year.
In his impassioned speech, Marwat accused PTI leaders of abandoning Khan during his time of need, stating, “Some KP ministers are more focused on personal benefits than on promoting the goals of PTI.” He condemned the ongoing infighting among party members, which he believes detracts from the party’s mission.
Marwat revealed that he has faced threats of expulsion from PTI but asserted that such intimidation would not silence him. He announced his intention to meet with Imran Khan to discuss the challenges within the KP government and to report alleged misconduct by certain officials who he believes should be held accountable rather than rewarded with promotions.
One notable example he cited was the recent promotion of a police officer who allegedly attacked him in Bajaur, now serving as a senior superintendent of police (SSP) in Peshawar. Marwat emphasized the need to challenge the status quo within PTI’s KP leadership and called for a concerted effort to secure Khan’s release.
His comments follow rising tensions within PTI, particularly during recent protests at D-Chowk and concerning the party’s stance on the 26th Constitutional Amendment. Some members reportedly voted in favor of amendments that contradicted PTI’s policies. Just a day prior, Zain Qureshi resigned as the PTI’s deputy parliamentary leader after receiving a show-cause notice for his disengagement from party leadership during the amendment’s passage.
Marwat’s ongoing conflicts with fellow PTI leaders are well-documented, including a previous dispute that led to the temporary suspension of his party membership over disciplinary issues. Despite his past controversies, he has reiterated his commitment to the party and its founder.
As the political landscape in KP continues to shift, Marwat’s outspoken remarks highlight the internal struggles within PTI and the pressing need for unity in support of Imran Khan.
